tuesday’s general session started off with some epic PoWer Poses. ISPA Foundation
Chairman Frank Pitsikalis welcomed the female members of the board of Directors to the
stage to show all of ISPA what strong women look like. It was such a great moment! It was
clear that Amy Cuddy’s keynote from the day before had really hit home with our ISPA
community.

Apexer to the stage. He told a moving
story about an out-of-body experience in
his youth that changed his life’s purpose.
As we all know, finding a career that is
also your calling can be near impossible;
most people never find it. After listening
to The Apexer’s story, we were shown
how it just takes courage and confidence
to have the guts to follow your dreams.

PricewaterhouseCoopers to the stage on
Tuesday to explain the groundbreaking
research from this year’s ISPA Industry
Study and Compensation Supplement. For
the first time ever, spa visits were well
above 180 million in the U.S., with
revenues topping US$16.8 billion. Those
numbers were mind-blowing, and we are
well on our way to meeting McIlheney’s
challenge of US$20 billion in revenue by
2020.
McIlheney also introduced the Spa
Workforce Survey, a first-of-its-kind
industry research study that will shed a
light on the true needs of the spa worker.
McIlheney challenged us to 10,000
responses.
Pitsikalis, along with spa legend Mary
Tabacchi, then presented the 2017 ISPA
Foundation Mary Tabacchi Scholarship to
LaTesha Council, who is in her second
year in the Master of Tourism
Administration Program at George
Washington University.
