MAKING COSMETICS SAFE Creating a Clean Beauty Standard Across the Board

There are hundreds , perhaps thousands , of untested and potentially toxic chemicals in personal care products . With the goal of keeping consumers safe from harmful chemicals in the products they reach for every day , Ashley Prange is starting a national health revolution that ’ s about to change the beauty industry forever .

Prange , founder and CEO of the organic , all-natural cosmetics brand Au Naturale , has spearheaded the Clean Beauty Revolution Movement , which demands transparent labeling of beauty products in the United States . It advocates for the consumer ’ s right to know what ingredients go into the products they consume so they can make healthy and informed purchasing decisions .
Currently , there is no governmental task force making sure ingredients used in beauty products are safe . Prange and her clean beauty team are working on making a label to be stamped onto beauty products and cosmetics that shows a product is safe and non-toxic , much like the USDA Organic label does for food .
How the Clean Beauty Revolution Started According to Prange , the idea of clean beauty started six years ago when she had just launched her company , Au Naturale . She wanted to “ put her money where her mouth was ,” so she started advocating for consumer rights .
“ Six years ago , nobody else was advocating for clean beauty ,” Prange said . “ But throughout the years we ’ ve found more allies in places you would and wouldn ’ t expect , which has been really validating and inspiring .”
The Clean Beauty initiative was born out of a quiet desire that Prange had to see healthier standards for cosmetics practiced every day in the U . S . and has snowballed into a true revolution , thanks to consumers being so adamant about knowing what ingredients are in their personal care products .
“ I ’ ve watched the Clean Beauty Revolution grow from a

Prange credits her biggest success with Clean Beauty Revolution ’ s progress to joining up with the Environmental
Working Group , Senator Diane Feinstein ( D-CA ), Senator Susan Collins ( R-ME ) and unlikely players like Johnson & Johnson , Unilever , Honest Company and many more influential forces in the cosmetic space . The joint effort of these groups made it possible to propose the Personal Care Product Safety Act , ( S . 1113 ), and to propel it forward .
The Personal Care Products Safety Act amends the Federal Food , Drug , and Cosmetic Act to require cosmetics
au naturale ' s commitment to all-natural and transparent products inspired Prange to take the movement to d . c .
