P : You use the term Well-Thy a lot . What exactly is “ Well-Thy ?” BB : Well-Thy is a state of success being equated with good health . Well-Thy is a feeling of confidence , being fit and sensing balance . It ’ s about having time for what is important to us , pursuing our passions and fostering good relationships — including the one with ourselves . Being Well-Thy is not only trending now , but predicted to get stronger over time , especially as our stress levels soar . Spa experiences are the way to be Well-Thy !
P : How can spas hop aboard the Well-Thy trends ? B : The outcome of stress is inflammation , the culprit of dis-ease , whether it be physiological , emotional or mental . When our bodies are frayed , emotions aren ’ t expressed , and we are over stimulated mentally , imbalance occurs . We are a gyroscope seeking equilibrium , and a “ spa experience ” can be the axis point for clients to return to again and again .
How can you create experiences where clients can feel Well- Thy ? Think outside the box . What creative ways can you provide immersive experiences , beauty rejuvenation , alternative healing , self-exploration or transformation ? The possibilities are endless . Just remember to stay true to your spa ’ s mission , find treatments that compliment your staff and can be measured in ROI .
As an example , digital detox and silence has become a huge trend , but spas are interpreting the trend in unique ways that set them apart and keep guests engaged . Mandarin Oriental began offering “ Silent Night ” retreats during the holidays , where guests could experience their treatments in silence — no music , no questions or advice from therapists . At the Kripalu Yoga Center patrons eat breakfast in silence . The Mayo Clinic is launching a digital detox initiative to encourage clients to unplug , offering mindfulness activities and other stress-relieving treatments .
Again , ask yourself , “ what problems related to stress can I solve for my current and potential patrons that align with my spa ’ s mission and essence ?”
P : What is the most important trend for all companies — spas and resource partners — to consider adopting ? B : Transparency . In a recent Havas Worldwide survey of over 10,000 consumers from around the world , 78 percent of respondents said it is ‘ somewhat or very important for a company to be transparent ,’ and 70 percent said they make it a point to know more about the companies they buy from . This holds true for all organizations . n
