CULTURE IS KING How to Craft a Stellar Workplace Atmosphere

THE FACTOR MOST AT THE CENTER OF SPA industry leaders ’ efforts to recruit and retain top-quality employees is not , as might be expected , compensation levels , nor is it benefits packages . That ’ s not to say that pay rates and insurance offerings don ’ t hold sway with potential employees — because they do — but as many of those industry leaders will tell you , a stellar compensation and benefits package may not be enough to attract strong candidates if the business offering them does not also boast an appealing workplace culture .
Culture , loosely defined in this context as the atmosphere created by the unique mixture of a business ’ s values , policies , attitudes and leadership , has seemingly become even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic . The many challenges of the pandemic , from its toll on mental health to its transformational effect on how work gets done , have led job-seekers and the already employed alike to favor work environments that align with their priorities and contribute positively to their own wellbeing . But what , exactly , can spas and resource partners do to cultivate such an environment ? Pulse spoke with three culture-driven leaders to get their takes .
