“ The Kentucky Derby , whatever it is — a race , an emotion , a turbulence , an explosion — is one of the most beautiful and violent and satisfying things I have ever experienced .”
— JOHN STEINBECK
THE KENTUCKY DERBY IS KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD as the most exciting two minutes in sports , but here in Kentucky , it means so much more . Stylish hats , mint juleps and gorgeous spring flowers become statewide concerns leading up to the race . Then , after months of preparation , it ’ s over in the blink of an eye .
It ’ s hard to think of the Derby without bringing to mind the ISPA Conference as well . Hundreds of hours are spent planning Conference , and thousands of members look forward to its return each year . Excitement permeates the lead-up to the event , and we ’ re filled with gratitude for the members , speakers , sponsors and exhibitors who show their support for the association . Then , after months of preparation , it ’ s over in the blink of an eye .
But just as those in the Derby Winner ’ s Circle reflect on all the hard work and support that it takes to reach that point , we at ISPA can ’ t help but think about all the effort it has taken over the last several years to get us where we are today . As a non-profit organization , ISPA has survived the impact of the pandemic due to the tremendous forethought exercised by board leaders to build sustainable reserves more than a decade ago following the Great Recession . Their strategic vision kept the ISPA lights on and provided resources necessary to develop essential tools to help the spa industry weather the pandemic storm and emerge with confidence . Amidst all the emotion and excitement of coming back together in person next month , let ’ s take a moment to reflect on the unity and strength our industry has shown to get to this point . We will always be stronger together . •
