walking out on stage , regardless of what ’ s going on in my personal life .
Pulse : Brené Brown calls you a gifted storyteller . What advice can you share with ISPA members who want to improve how they tell their brand story to connect with their communities ? AP : Sharing your story is the most important thing you can do for your business . It ’ s what sets your brand apart from everyone else . It ’ s also what connects you deeper to your audience and clients .
And funny you mention Brené Brown because the most important part of storytelling is vulnerability . When we share where we came from and why we chose to do the work we do , that ’ s how we build emotional connection and trust .
Tell your story so your clients really understand the “ why ” behind your work , versus just “ what ” you do . Sharing your why will always foster a deeper connection than just sharing what you offer . n

How Amy Purdy lives life to the fullest
l Best way to live the spa lifestyle ?: I take a bath every night and just decompress . Sometimes I listen to relaxing music or light a candle . l Up next on your bucket list ?: To write a second book and launch my speaking course to help others share their stories for impact . l Most interesting thing you ’ ve learned recently ?: If the earth was 10 percent closer to the sun , the temperature would be too high to sustain human life . If it was 10 percent farther from the sun , it would be covered in ice . If it spun 10 percent faster , winds would wreak havoc on the planet , and 10 percent slower would warm the oceans and create massive storms . Basically , nature is perfectly in balance , just like the human body . We are a perfect creation and we are exactly where we are meant to be . l An activity you would turn into a competitive sport ?: Bouncing back from adversity . Why would I choose it ? Because I would win ! l Most unusual thing you ’ ve ever collected ?: I ’ ve collected notches on my belt of how many times I ’ ve almost died ! l Walk-up song that should play when you enter any room ?: Right now I ’ m loving Unstoppable by Sia ! l Common advice you completely disagree with ?: To “ overcome obstacles ,” because many obstacles we won ’ t ever actually overcome . You have to live with them and learn to work with them ; in fact , dealing with obstacles can be what gets you ahead in life . It ’ s less about overcoming them and more about using them and dancing with them .
