A Conversation with Industry Leaders

IN EACH ISSUE OF PULSE , “ Member Perspectives ” features insights from leaders in different corners of the spa industry , each of whom shares their spa ’ s unique experience with or approach to a particular challenge or subject . The 2021 ISPA Stronger Together Summit , however , provided the perfect opportunity to go in a slightly different direction . That ’ s because the ISPA Town Hall “ A Conversation with Industry Leaders ” brought those leaders into the same space and offered them the chance to share their views on a wide range of pressing industry topics .
Medispa Emergence
The first of those aforementioned pressing topics was the emergence of medispas and guests seeking the kinds of treatments ( and results ) that those spas typically provide — and which most other spas don ’ t yet offer . Kenneth Ryan , VP of global operations for Marriott , noted that , though his company does attempt to identify elements of advanced esthetics that they can incorporate into their services , they are taking a measured approach to more invasive treatments and focusing instead on a more traditional spa experience . “ We do like to look for those advanced esthetics treatments that can provide real results , but at the same time , we ’ re really trying to be focused on delivering that luxury resort spa experience that our customers [ have ] really come to expect ,” Ryan said .
