SOUND OFF
BY JOSH CORMAN
DO YOU EVER WONDER how your peers would handle a situation ? Maybe you ’ re curious what other leaders in the spa industry have to say on a certain subject . In Sound Off , we ask ISPA members from differing backgrounds , countries and companies the same question and see how their answers compare .
“ What takeaway from a session , speaker or other experience at the ISPA Conference resonated most strongly with you ?”
TONY NICASTRO
Marriott International Senior Global Manager , Spa and Fitness
During the Power Session with Jade Simmons , she was taking an eye-opening look at her life introspectively and she said something like , “ I know you think I am talking a lot about myself , but I am actually talking about you ,” this really hit me like a ton of bricks .
I was really blown away by how many new faces we have in the Spa industry , and so impressed to see how quickly everyone opened their arms to embrace this new chapter with new people in our new world . In other parts of hospitality , I still see many working in their old silos , not quick to integrate change .

Even after a tumultuous couple of years in our industry , this year ’ s ISPA conference did not disappoint ! All the wonderful things we ’ ve come to expect along with many thoughtful surprises . I am incredibly grateful to be a member of ISPA . Every year of attendance to the conference , I am amazed by how many hard working , generous and creative-minded professionals all come together to support one another to keep pushing bounds so that spas are regarded as ‘ wellness learning centers ’ within our own individual communities .

The overall experience at ISPA 2022 was , for me , like a huge family reunion , with everyone happy and genuinely excited to be together again . The takeaway learnings were impactful and the focus , rightly so , placed on acquisition and retention of team members in our industry . We need all the knowledge and guidance possible in the area , now more than ever before . This theme echoed consistently through each presentation , and I felt it was relevant and delivered in varying engaging ways .
Since COVID the workforce ethic has changed , and we need to work hard to attract talent to our amazing industry and then to do all in our power to develop and grow them into the future leaders in our industry . My team and I left with newly inspired ideas to take back to our colleagues . Thanks , ISPA ! n
