LEGISLATIVE UPDATES IN THE U . S .

ISPA SHARES NEWS OF RELEVANT pending and potential legislation with its members to advocate for actions that will strengthen the spa industry . As a 501 ( c )( 6 ) organization , ISPA does not lobby or directly engage in political activities .
IMpact
IMpact — the Interstate Massage Compact — is a proposed U . S . interstate occupational licensure compact that will enable licensed massage therapists to practice in all states that join the compact , rather than get an individual license in every state in which they want to practice .
The IMpact bill passed both legislative chambers in Nevada in early June and was signed by Governor Lombardo , making the Silver State the first to join the interstate compact .
IMpact requires ratification by seven member states before the compact goes into effect . Planners expected a couple of states would pass the bill in 2023 — its first year of introduction — and indicate additional states are likely to consider the bill in 2024 legislative sessions .
Legislation is pending in Ohio ; the bill is being considered in the state ’ s Senate Health Committee and is due for a vote as this Pulse issue is approaching publication . IMpact was introduced in Georgia this year and the bill will carry over to next year ’ s legislative session . The legislatures in Washington and Nebraska ended their 2023 sessions without passing IMpact but may reconsider the proposal in a future session .
What you can do :
Residents of Ohio should contact their state legislators to encourage support for Senate Bill 56 ; business leaders in other states may wish to urge their state legislators to learn more about IMpact for future legislative consideration .

Cosmetology Licensure Compact
The Cosmetology Licensure Compact is a proposed U . S . interstate occupational licensure compact that will enable cosmetologists to get a multistate license to practice in all states that join the compact , rather than get an individual license in every state in which they want to practice .
Compact bills have passed in Arizona and Kentucky , and Cosmetology Licensure Compact planners anticipate four or five states ultimately will join the Compact in 2023 .
Legislation is being considered in Alabama and in Ohio as this issue of Pulse approaches publication . In California , a bill has passed the Assembly and is in Senate committee , where it will likely be considered this autumn . Additionally ,
