Our theme that year was “ Broadening the Vision ,” a sentiment that resonates even more profoundly today .
1998 was a remarkable year . Google and the Apple iMac were born , revolutionizing technology . The Winter Olympics in Japan introduced snowboarding as a competition sport . Titanic captivated audiences and won 11 Oscars at the 70th Academy Awards , while TV saw both the premiere of Sex and the City and the finale of Seinfeld . The newly-formed European Central Bank began minting the first Euros , marking a significant milestone in global finance .
For the spa industry , 1998 truly was a pivotal time . We were working tirelessly to shift perceptions from mere luxury and pampering to essential self-care and well-being . We were starting to employ the power of unity — in marketing and in shaping industry standards and policies — to influence global perspectives and practices .
As we fondly remember those transformative years , let ' s turn our attention to the future with renewed vigor . In the quarter-century after 1998 , our industry has tripled in staffing and guest visits , and quintupled in spa locations , according to the most recent ISPA U . S . Spa Industry Study . Imagine what lies ahead as we reconvene at The Broadmoor and the Cheyenne Mountain Resort ( page 46 ). What new milestones will we achieve ? How will
