T
he monthly ISPA Snapshot Surveys give ISPA members the opportunity to participate in
useable and relevant industry research. In March, members shared with ISPA which
treatments are selling well and which are experiencing a decline in demand. The good
news is that members wrote far more about increasing demand than declining demand. The
“word cloud” below shows which treatments came up most frequently in the responses.
Currently, longer massages, combination and couples treatments are expanding, as are anti-aging
services. On the downside, members reported declining demand for wraps, peels and scrubs.
Interestingly, facials appeared frequently on both lists.
Treatments increasing in demand:
In March, members were also asked about technology, particularly with regards to the use of photography and video in helping customers visualize treatments. Given that almost everyone now
carries a digital camera and video device in one’s pocket, it is perhaps a surprise that less than
half of all respondents are using photography or video in this way. Giving potential customers a
better idea of what they can expect from a treatment, particularly a new treatment, is an excellent marketing tactic to get them into the door.
