PAGE PEERENBOOM Creative Director Au Naturale Cosmetics
The life-long task for every woman: finding the perfect shade of foundation. That’ s where Page Peerenboom steps in. As creative director of Au Naturale, she’ s tasked with researching trending colors, ingredients and products, going to the powder room to develop the new product ideas and urying herself in the lab to mix new pigments.
While, as Peerenboom notes, this is the best part of her job, staying on top of the continually changing landscape in the beauty industry is also the hardest challenge she’ s faced with. However, she wouldn’ t change a thing. Being creative director at an emerging natural beauty brand allows Peerenboom to balance both her creative and her problem-solving sides. Here’ s a sneak peek into a typical day for this makeup master:
★ 9:00 am Most likely standing in line at the Copper Rock Coffee waiting for a maple spiced latte with an extra shot of espresso.
★ 9:30 am Head down into the lab for our daily Hi-ho! meeting with the team. This is when we detail our goals for the week, share motivational quotes to get everyone pumped up and ready to slay the day, and update everyone on project deadlines and events in the pipeline.
★ 10:30 am Pow-wow with our marketing director, Morgan, about what’ s coming in hot on the calendar; are we dropping a new product? Launching a sale? Having a sick Instagram giveaway? After we check the schedule to see what’ s on the radar, we brainstorm the best plan of attack and decide what she needs from me to make her marketing dreams come true.
★ 11:00 am I get to work on designing all the collateral to go along with whatever campaign we are planning to run. Design email, social and website content, take whatever photography materials we need to supplement the campaign and design literature to pack into the orders going out.
★ Noon Run to Chipotle for above mentioned burrito bowl.
★ 12:30 pm After lunch, I switch gears to tradeshow design
Peerenboom lending a hand( or arm) to help showcase the latest colors in au Naturale ' s collections.
mode brainstorming the vision for our booth, researching furniture rentals, getting quotes and placing orders.
★ 1:30 pm Switching gears again to color creation! We have a teleconference with one of our favorite beauty bloggers, Organic Bunny, to brainstorm color inspiration for her exclusive holiday lip kit.
★ 2:00 pm Once I make the color mood board from our call, I take that color to our lab into the powder room and get to mixing! I usually make a couple different pigment variations for our collaborators to choose from because I want them to get exactly what they are imagining. Make their makeup dreams come true!
★ 2:30 pm After I’ ve created the pigments, I work with the gals down in production to create the organic base for all products and get the components ready to be poured. Once the product is all melted and ready to go, I hand pour samples for Organic Bunny to test, pack and label them to send to shipping.
★ 3:00 pm Back to my desk for some data entry. Create new recipes for the exclusive holiday lip kit colors and enter them into the system so we can replicate the products once we hear back from Organic Bunny. Spreadsheets are a necessary evil.
★ 3:30 pm I lend a hand( literally) to our marketing director, Morgan and let her swatch / photograph fall colors on my arm to post to the Instagram story. Hand modeling just might be my calling, but I probably shouldn’ t quit my day job quite yet.
★ 4:00 pm Pack up for the day to head to our weekly Pilates class with the Au Nat work squad. n
