A STRONG SPA MENU should support the guest experience, work operationally and contribute to the business. Use this quick review to pressure-test each service.
1.
THE SPA MENU HEALTH CHECK A quick guide to deciding what stays, what changes— and what goes
Check the numbers Look at booking volume, full treatment cost, revenue per booked hour, retail or enhancement opportunities and rebooking.
2.
Check the operation Ask whether the team can deliver the service consistently and efficiently. Consider setup, cleanup, laundry, inventory, scheduling and practitioner availability.
PRO TIP: Ask front desk employees and practitioners what makes a service difficult to sell or deliver. Different answers may reveal different problems.
Let past performance be your guide High bookings + strong margin: PROTECT IT. High bookings + weak margin: IMPROVE IT. Low bookings + strong margin: REPOSITION IT. Low bookings + weak margin: RECONSIDER IT.
3.
Check the guest experience Can guests quickly understand what the service is, what benefit it provides and why they should choose it?
If not, the treatment may not need to change. Its name or description might.
4.
Make the call Put every service into one of four categories:
l KEEP: It performs well and fits the brand. l FIX: The concept works, but something needs adjustment. l TEST: Try it seasonally or for a limited time. l RETIRE: Its results no longer justify the resources it requires.
Final Check Step back and review the full menu. Is it easy to navigate? Are your strongest services easy to find? Are too many choices competing for attention? The goal isn’ t the biggest menu. It’ s a menu in which every service has a reason to be there. n
