ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
FROM YOUR CHAIRMAN
PARDON THE UNDERSTATEMENT , but 2021 has been quite a year . In many ways , it has felt like an unwanted sequel to 2020 , complete with its own ever-evolving set of challenges that has tested us both personally and professionally .
It ’ s tempting in these moments to look only ahead , pining for the day when social distancing and mask mandates and vaccine arguments are a thing of the past . Believe me — I get it . In truth , I am not usually the end-of-the-year reflection type , but after nearly two years facing the day-to-day realities of the COVID-19 pandemic , there is no such thing as a bad time to step back and consider what we ’ ve experienced , what we ’ ve learned and — most importantly — what we ’ re grateful for .
Personally , I ’ m grateful — as are countless others — for the healthcare workers ( my brotherin-law included ) who have proven themselves to be the true heroes of this moment . They kept my mother alive when she was sick in 2020 , and they bravely continue to do the work of angels each day as they fight this mercurial , unrelenting disease .
Gratitude is not hard to come by for us at ISPA either . We ’ re especially thankful to all those who came together and lent their expertise and their voices to support the ISPA community through the Stronger Together Summit and our Town Hall series . We have been blown away by the way you have embraced these events and by the many kind messages we continue to receive about the impact of the ISPA ’ s virtual content this year . It has kept us connected in a way we couldn ’ t have imagined just a couple of years ago , and we ’ re so glad to have been able to take part alongside you .
As the old saying goes ,“ We can ’ t control the winds , but we can adjust our sails .” That was good advice when the pandemic began , and it remains so today . And remember , if it sometimes feels like the winds are too strong : None of us are sailing alone .
