ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

HELLO , ISPA FAMILY . I would be remiss not to acknowledge the devastation that has impacted Maui over the summer . So many of our members ’ homes and businesses were lost or have been severely impacted by the fires . And while property can be replaced and businesses and homes rebuilt , we can only continue to think of not only the many lives lost in Hawaii , but also the loved ones and friends who are left to mourn for and remember those they have lost .

In many ways it begins a new chapter and a new question for us : How do we truly support one another when the unthinkable happens ?

We have survived September 11 , 2001 , the collapse of our financial institutions in 2009 , and of course 2020 . But what happened in Hawaii somehow feels different . And we are being called upon — as an industry , yes , but also as human beings — to support one another in profound and direct ways . Quite frankly , it may be because we have been through so much together that we feel the pains of Hawaii so deeply .

In this month ’ s issue there will be great information on preparing budgets for 2024 . The ISPA New Product Awards we are introducing . A great feature on Michael Tompkins — former chairman of ISPA and now our Visionary Award recipient for 2024 . And so much more . But as we read through the business side of the industry , let us not forget the underlying engine of our industry is the people . Those of us who , day in and day out , carry out the business of healing people and creating beautiful , safe spaces for our guests to simply be . As we uplift the people , we uplift one another , and that in turn uplifts our industry .
