2017 ISPA CONFERENCE & EXPO Jim Mathis Favorite book: The Bible EXPERTISE: GENERATIONAL MARKETING Last great place traveled: Anchorage to Fairbanks on the Alaska Railroad Session: “Generational Genius: How to Effectively Reach Millennials” Favorite thing to do in Las Vegas: See some shows. Favorite podcast: None. I don’t find podcasts enriching or as up-to-date as the daily blogs I read that are less than 24 hours old and current. My inspiration: If we don’t work; we don’t eat. Seriously, I love my job and there is nothing like changing lives and signing new clients. (Makes my wife happy, too.) Best part of my day: My wife and I are addicted to solving murder mysteries. We spend most evenings watching Investigation Discovery (IDTV). We compete as to who can solve the crimes fastest. It’s a great brain exercise and you learn a lot about human nature. Greatest lesson I’ve learned about business: That it costs a lot to start your own business and takes more initiative than most people think. I have also learned that you must reinvent constantly to stay ahead. Favorite breakfast: Anything involving grits and bacon (served separately of course). Favorite book! If I could be anyone else for a day, I’d be: I would be my wife; then I would know how it feels to put up with me. I would be able to come away with a better understanding of her and know how to help her better going forward. I also envy her spiritual side and would love to experience that for a day. Best presentation I’ve attended: John Maxwell’s “The Four Skills Seminar” —It turned my life around and led me to eventually become a speaker. EXPERTISE: SPA DESIGN Favorite book: The Agony and the Ecstasy, a biography of Michelangelo by Irving Stone reminds me that even the great masters overcame great challenges. Session: “Design Trends That Bring Clients and Revenue” Last great place traveled: Aitutaki, one of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific, was very remote and relaxing. Bob Henry Favorite thing to do in Las Vegas: Lecture, spa, party, then repeat. Favorite podcast: TED Talks My inspiration: My crazy family and my cool design studio colleagues Best part of my day: 5:30 a.m. dawn swim at Coney Island with the Russian Polar Bear Club Greatest lesson I’ve learned about business: “Gotta be in it to win it.” Favorite breakfast: Eggs Benedict and a bloody Mary after a morning swim Favorite breakfast! If I could be anyone else for a day I’d be: Van Gogh, Hemingway or Genghis-Khan Best presentation I’ve attended: Hopefully mine! I’ll give it my best shot at this year’s ISPA Conference & Expo.
