How technology is changing spa and spa-goers: i worry about the lack of interaction and human connection because of technology and social media that we hear so much about. This industry thrives on human connection, and it is fading. Those of us who are in the industry have a common desire to serve and take care of people. i believe the upcoming generations like being taken care of and prefer to be on the receiving end of the service, which makes me concerned about the labor pool. The push for longer hours due to higher demand: i’m concerned about the future of our body workers who don’t fall under the norms of labor laws. forty-hour work weeks are not appropriate for them but the trends are pushing them closer to that edge to satisfy health care requirements and benefits. i will personally work to address this issue and be proactive about their care. michael conte director of sPa and Wellness, the meadoWood sPa The treatment that has grown the most since he entered the industry: oncology massage. Sadly, with the statistics of cancer rates growing, it is so important that our industry adapt to what our guests and clients need. i am happy to see that spas and therapists are embracing this very important modality as a healing tool for survivors because it can help physically, mentally and emotionally. Maintaining balance while adapting to changing trends: We have implemented special programs and i also keep an eye on trends versus fads. While i think it’s important to keep rooted in the traditional therapies, i also think there are great modern opportunities for spas. i look at them closely and decide what i want to bring in to enhance our offerings and elevate the guest experience. On his own professional evolution: Being a responsible financial operator has been something i have continued to evolve and change in how i run my spas. i am able to really drill down into the financial performance and make sure i am running the tightest ship possible while maintaining the high level of offerings and service to my guests.
