Barbara Bush’ s Chocolate Chip Cookies

AT THE HOUSTONIAN HOTEL, CLUB & SPA, a beloved recipe carries a touch of presidential history. Barbara Bush and George H. W. Bush made The Houstonian their residence in the 1980s, and Mrs. Bush graciously granted permission for the hotel to share her cherished chocolate chip cookie recipe, originally given to her by a longtime friend. Today, the hotel’ s pastry team prepares the cookies in-house for special events, weddings and celebrations, including gatherings at Trellis Spa.
INGREDIENTS l l l l l l l
1 cup butter 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt
Mrs. Bush graciously granted permission for the hotel to share her cherished chocolate chip cookie recipe, originally given to her by a longtime friend.
PREPARATION Blend the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Beat in the eggs. Sift and add the flour, then mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the oatmeal, vanilla and chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. l l
