H LYNNE“ Black-eyed peas and cornbread on New Year’ s Day is a treasured family tradition!”
CRYSTAL“ Homemade chicken and dumplings take me back to cherished moments in the kitchen with my grandmother.”
H AVA“ There is no better way to wake up than to the smell of fresh brewed coffee.”
CHELSEA“ Vegetable casserole at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It may be more sour cream and cheese than vegetables, but it’ s delicious and it’ s a family recipe I loved in childhood— and now as an adult I get to cook it and share it with others.”
SYDNEY“ Christmas Eve macaroni and cheese. Honoring a long-standing family tradition makes this simple meal taste so much better, thinking about my dad and grandmother who started this about 70 years ago.”
AMY“ Brunch is my favorite. It’ s unhurried and delightfully, rebelliously, crosses boundaries between breakfast and lunch.”
H SCOT“ Monkey bread. My mom made it every year for the first day of school, so it will always taste like fresh starts and big possibilities.”
NELSON“ Making and eating gumbo warms my heart like nothing else.”
OLIVIA“ Every year, my family picks out our Christmas tree and we decorate it together. My dad always makes shrimp cocktail and steak sandwiches on a crusty roll with homemade ' horsey ' sauce. Best night of the year!”
JESSICA“ Homemade hot chocolate on a snow day.”
H DELILAH“ Red velvet cake on my mother’ s birthday and popcorn balls during Christmas.”
COURTNEY“ Appalachian food! A typical dinner for me growing up with my grandparents was garden cucumbers in water and vinegar, sliced and salted tomato, garden green beans and soup beans and cornbread.”
H SAMANTHA“ Camp classics like roasting sausages and making s’ mores. I would rather be cooking around a campfire, in the great outdoors with my family, than dining in the finest restaurant.”
H MARJA“ My great Auntie Wanda made the most delicious sugar cookies. My sisters and I adored them! They were always on a special plate when we came to visit. It took me until adulthood to learn to make them and they’ re still not as good as hers.”
