BEYOND THE BOARDROOM: How ISPA Board Members Stay Engaged

SERVING ON THE ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS extends well beyond attending scheduled board meetings or holding an officer role. Throughout the year, directors remain actively connected to ISPA’ s members, volunteer groups, educational initiatives and strategic priorities.
Listening to volunteers One of the most important ways directors stay engaged is through their work with ISPA task forces. Directors join virtual meetings and listen closely to the perspectives, challenges and ideas shared by volunteers. Those conversations create an important connection between ISPA’ s volunteer community and the board.
Directors then carry those insights into board discussions and strategic planning, helping ensure member perspectives remain part of the association’ s broader decision-making.
Keeping the conversation going The conversation does not pause when a meeting ends. Directors stay connected through Basecamp, a project management tool with built-in messaging, where board members maintain an ongoing, lively exchange of ideas.
“ Strong board engagement is about listening, participating and bringing those perspectives back to the full board.”
That dialogue keeps directors engaged with one another and the association’ s work between scheduled meetings.
Staying close to member needs Engagement also includes participation in ISPA’ s research and educational initiatives. Snapshot Surveys, Town Halls, iLearn and other programs help directors remain informed about member needs, emerging issues and conversations shaping the spa industry.
Strong board engagement is about listening, participating and bringing those perspectives back to the full board. Every director shares that commitment: to stay engaged, contribute thoughtfully and help ensure the voices and experiences of ISPA members remain part of the conversation. n
