and development. Williams says delegating should be the equivalent of developing. Another module outlines different types of difficult people and strategies for engaging with them.
In the motivation and team-building module, participants receive a practical tool: a motivation recognition chart. Williams explains that, on that chart, you can list each person on your team, what motivates them to succeed and how they prefer to be recognized when they do a great job.
He added:“ Treat your staff precisely how you want them to treat your guests. If you want to really teach your employees about anticipating needs, learning guest preferences and opening doors, do those things for them first.”
Motivating your team So, what’ s Williams’ s best advice for energizing a team?“ Believe in your people,” he said.“ When you believe in somebody, you assume the best. You want to develop them, grow them and mentor them.”
He closed the session with an inspiring reflection:“ The word inspire is an English derivative of the Latin inspirare, meaning‘ to breathe life into.’ Essentially, you are awakening a fire, whether it’ s in yourself or someone else. If you’ re a manager or leader, your job is to help your employees and yourself be at your best. That’ s what this workshop was designed to do: help you awake the fire in people. That’ s what inspire is all about.” n
Outcomes and feedback Williams frequently hears from participants after they’ ve completed the course. The most common takeaways include: l Increased confidence and feeling better equipped to manage. l Regret not taking the course earlier in their careers. l Appreciation for the practical tools, worksheets and templates included in the curriculum.
