FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES, the ISPA U. S. Spa Industry Study has provided a data-driven periodic snapshot of the industry’ s performance. The report offers an annual“ state of the industry” with data on industry size and growth; spa services and facilities; employment; and an industry profile. Among the recently-released 2025 edition’ s most revealing findings is this: Renovation and facility updates have emerged as one of the most pressing challenges— and priorities— for spa businesses in 2025.
Renovation is rising to the top When asked about their single biggest challenge for the year ahead, spa leaders named three consistent themes: staffing, growing the business and facility updates.
Facility-related concerns span a range of issues: from managing renovations without disrupting guest experience to addressing capacity limitations and aging infrastructure. One in five survey respondents specifically highlighted renovation and physical space upgrades as key operational hurdles in 2025.
