Pulse : You ’ re famous for presenting “ Keynote Concerts ” at your presentations . Without giving away too much , tell ISPA members a little about those performances . PK : There ’ s a lot of research around the power of music , summarized in what ’ s known as the “ Music Transfer Effect .” We actually process music in the same place we process our feelings . We ’ re as hard-wired to engage with music as we are to want water to drink and air to breathe . And , when you introduce music into a learning environment , you create the conditions for people to “ drop in ,” connect and learn at a much deeper level . Physiologically speaking , you help them to breathe more deeply , relax their nervous systems , and ultimately move them out of their heads and into their hearts . From there , they ’ re able to tap into feelings of connection , belonging and joy , and to better innovate , create and retain ideas . All of this comes to life when we create the right conditions for it — and music is a key part of that .
Pulse : You ’ re also known for helping business leaders recognize the power of celebration to inspire team success . PK : Absolutely , celebration is something I ’ m incredibly passionate about , and that I ’ ve seen transform organizations time and time again . I ’ ll share more about this in my keynote .
“ You have to solve the riddle that ’ s in front of you : What does this moment need ? What happened in the world this morning ? What ’ s the pulse of the room ? What can I do to meet this moment ?”
